Dubai (SD) – DP World, the operator and investor of the Berbera port in Somaliland responded to Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh’s allegations that DP World has made no progress in the port of Berbera.
In a recent interview with The Africa Report, President Guelleh said that DP World had not made any progress or investment at Berbera port.
“DP World excels at creating buzz but then, in the end, nothing happens,” he said. “You don’t even see a crane erected.” Alleged President Guelleh.
But a statement from DP World said President Guelleh’s remarks were inaccurate “false and not based on any reasonable insights the president could have”.
DP World added, “DP World is committed to investing $ 442 million in the development of the Berbera port, 70% of which has been completed, and will increase capacity by 500,000 TEUs per year.”
DP world said that in August this year it completed a new 400m addition to the new container terminal, as well as installed a new lift, and construction of the terminal is expected to be completed in March next year.
it’s worth noting the government of president Muse Bihi is yet to respond to President Guelleh’s assertions.
