Erdoğan and Abiy Ahmed discuss the Maritimes issue between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu.

Ankara August 10, 2024(QJ)-The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, had a phone conversation where they discussed the relationship between their two countries and the Maritimes issue between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu.

According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency, Erdoğan noted Turkey’s role in reducing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, highlighting that steps taken by Ethiopia to address Somalia’s concerns about its unity and sovereignty could help advance peace efforts.

This phone call coincided with the second round of talks between the two countries, set to take place in Turkey. The discussions will begin in Ankara on the 12th of this month.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia and a delegation he leads have requested that Turke participate in the negotiations with Ethiopia.
