Ethiopia declines to participate IGAD Extra Ordinary Meeting in Uganda

ADDIS ABABA (SD) -A proposed IGAD Extraordinary Meeting, which aimed at addressing the conflict in Sudan, as well as the recent MoU between Ethiopia and Somaliland, is facing challenges, with both Ethiopia and Sudan not planning to attend.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement indicating a scheduling conflict. Sudan has also reiterated its concerns, suggesting a direct mediation between the parties.

The recent MoU between Ethiopia and Somaliland, an unrecognized state, has stirred tensions, with the potential to escalate conflicts within the IGAD region.

The failure of the IGAD summit is expected to have significant repercussions on regional efforts to address the dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia.
