MOGADISHU (SD) -European Union naval forces have apprehended 6 Somali individuals who attempted to hijack an oil tanker traveling through the Gulf of Aden.
The attack on the Marshall Islands-flagged Chrystal Arctic, encountered the incident near the coast of Somalia, according to the private security firm Ambrey.
Upon encountering resistance from security personnel onboard, the pirate group decided to retreat.
Subsequently, the EU naval forces boarded the pirate vessel, encountering some individuals with various injuries, as they attempted to seize the cargo.
Somali pirates have resurfaced in recent months, targeting ships off the coast of Somalia, some of which have been ransomed for millions of dollars. However, some attempted hijackings have been thwarted.
