Ex-police chief appointed state minister for Public Works

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has today appointed Bashir Mohamed Jama (Gobe) as the country’s state minister for Public Works barely a month after Gobe was assigned to lead the spy agency of the horn of African nation.

Mid last Month, Roble had replaced Fahad Yasin who was then head of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) with Gobe after a public uproar over the death of Ikran Farah Tahlil, a female spy agent who went missing late June.

The September appointment widened the rift between the prime minister and president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo who rejected the replacement of Fahad, a close ally of Farmaajo.

Following a month-long mediation between the leaders, Farmaajo and Roble last Thursday signed an agreement to end their differences by tabling points of a win-win situation.

The two agreed on Yasin Farey to take charge at the agency while Gobe was to be appointed as a state minister.
Roble agreed to allow Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud (Farey) to continue in his role as acting head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

The PM’s pick for interim spy chief, General Bashir Mohamed Jama (Goobe), was appointed as the Minister of State.
Both Farmajo and Roble apologized to the public for the political crisis caused by the disagreement between the leaders.
