Hargeisa (SD) – The Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives Abdirisak Khalif has today appointed Lawyer Mubarik Abdi Ismail as the Legal Adviser to the House of Representatives.

Lawyer Mubarik Abdi Ismail is one of Somaliland’s most prominent human rights activists.

Mubarik Abdi, is among lawyers and other advisers appointed by Speaker of the House of Representatives Abdirizak Khalif last month.

Lawyers Mubarik Abdi and Guled Dafac, two prominent Somaliland lawyers, have both stopped practicing law during President Bihi’s government.

Both have previously stated that it is difficult to work as a lawyer in Somaliland at this time, citing the fact that President Bihi’s government does not respect the Constitution and other laws of Somaliland.

Lawyer Mubarik Abdi, has previously been seen campaigning for media laws and laws to combat violence against women.

The appointment of Mubarak Abdi comes at a time when the people of Somaliland are keeping a close eye on the performance of the newly elected Somaliland House of Representatives.
