MOGADISHU (SD) – The embattled security minister, Abdirashid Janan was sacked by Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe following emergence of reports of talks between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Janan.
The office of the state President said in a letter dated March 20 that Janan who is wanted by the Federal Government had been dismissed.
“Following discussions with the deputy president of Jubbaland state, the president of Jubbaland state sacked Abdirashid Hassan Abdinuur, Jubbaland Security Minister,” the letter read in part.
Meanwhile, Somali government has dispatched officials to Gedo region, in what some sources said is meant to welcome Abdirashid Janan who is expected to defect to Somali government.
Janan on Tuesday confirmed the ongoing talks with the federal government.
Last January, forces loyal to Janan had attacked Beled-Hawo town, prompting fierce fighting with Somali military.
The clashes between Janan and SNA forces has become a subject of a diplomatic row between Kenya and Somalia leading to a cut of relations.
Janan who escaped custody in Mogadishu and reportedly crossed into Kenya last year has an international warrant of arrest on his head but Somalia has accused Kenya of shielding him and his renegade forces in the border town of Mandera.
