Kenya and Somalia discuss the fight against Al Shabaab

Mogadishu July 31, 2023 (SD) – A meeting on security between the Kenyan President William Ruto and Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s security advisor’s Monica Juma and Hussein Mohamoud took place at Villa Somalia.

The meeting aimed to discuss how both countries could collaborate to further strengthen their counter-terrorism efforts.

As mentioned by Ms. Monica, the former Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya, the focus of the meeting was on enhancing regional stability and promoting international peace and security.

They also extensively discussed the threats posed by Al-Shabaab and the importance of security cooperation between the two nations.

Ms. Monica praised the progress made by the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab, leading to the liberation of territory from the group.

She emphasized that Kenya is committed to supporting Somalia in its efforts to counter Al-Shabaab and help stabilize various regions affected by the terrorist organization.

The Somali National Security Advisor, Hussein Ali Mahmoud, highlighted that Somalia is also willing to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Kenya and Somalia have a long history of diplomatic ties and shared interests, and it is expected that the meeting will further strengthen their cooperation.
