Kenyan delegation arrives in Kismayo to mediate between Jubaland and Feds

KISMAYO (SD) Reports coming from Kismayo, the temporary capital of Jubaland, indicate that the President of Jubaland, Ahmed Madobe, received a Kenyan delegation at the guest house in Kismayo. This delegation aims to find a solution to the conflict between Ahmed Madobe and Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

A brief statement issued by the Jubaland Presidency said, “President of Jubaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, has received a mediation delegation from the Kenyan government in Kismayo. The delegation has been requested by Somalia’s Federal Government President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to work towards resolving the conflict between Jubaland and the Federal Government of Somalia.”

The delegation was led by former IGAD Executive Secretary Amb. Mahboub Maalim, former IGAD Special Envoy to Somalia Mohamed Abdi Afey, and former Wajir County Senator Abdirahman Olow.

It is not yet known what specific issues were discussed in the meeting between these officials and President Ahmed Madobe or how they will impact the ongoing tension between the Federal Government and Jubaland.

Since the release of the Communiqué from the Madasha Forum, Jubaland has threatened to hold its own elections before the end of the year, signaling Ahmed Madobe’s intention to win these elections once again.

The meetings between the Kenyan delegation and the President of Jubaland will continue in Kismayo today, and it is expected that the agreed-upon points will be announced.
