Landmine attack targets Somali troops in Middle Shabelle regions

Bal ‘ad (SD) -Reports from the Middle Shabelle region say a landmine attack has targeted a Somali federal government forces convoy.

Six soldiers were reportedly killed and four others wounded as a landmine exploded on a military vehicle on the western outskirts of Bal ‘ad, 30km north of Mogadishu.

Sources at the scene confirmed to local media that the car targeted left Bal’ ad for Daniga area where government forces recently set up a base.

Other Somali troops with the convoy and some on the targeted vehicle survived the blast, added the witnesses.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but attacks in the area are often carried out by al-Shabaab, according to Somali security officials.
