Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali Bar Association has declared illegal the appointment of members of the Judicial Service Council, which were approved by Somalia’s caretaker cabinet yesterday.
The statement was signed by Somali lawyers’ Association secretary Abukate Dahir Arab, and said the cabinet could only appoint only three members to be part of the Judicial Service Council, while the other two are appointed by the bar association.
The Associations also said that the five members approved by the caretaker Council of Ministers could not meet the requirements of Article 8 of the Judicial Service Commission.
The Somali Bar Association has vowed to take appropriate action to prevent the law to be violated.
