Minister Beyle: We do corruption every day

Mogadishu (SD) – Somali Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Beyle has for the first time acknowledged that corruption occurs on a daily basis in government institutions.

Beyle, who appeared on Universal TV’s Dood Wadaag program, said corruption was rampant in the country and needed to be addressed.

The Finance Minister emphasized that corruption was not limited to embezzlement, but is also all the fraudulent interactions with the public.

Minister Beyle described government officials who collect salaries without working as form of embezzling public funds.

“Taking your dead brother’s job is corruption. If you look at what we are doing every day as Somalis, it is corruption. all we talked about is corruption. So, corruption is not only about stealing money, but we have to change all we talked about ”said Minister Beyle.

Finally, he underlined the importance of changing the system of government and societal norms, which he said was contributing to the corruption.
