Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali capital is peaceful tonight after pro-government and opposition forces clashed in some Mogadishu neighborhoods yesterday and last night.
Abdiaziz and Hodan districts, Maka Al-mukarama and KM4 where heavy fighting took place, are calm this morning with some normalcy returning.
Opposition forces could be seen in those areas, while Government forces withdrew after last night and yesterday’s clashes.
Meanwhile, numerous talks and efforts are underway to end the conflict in Mogadishu, However, people were seen fleeing their homes.
Prime Minister Roble, reportedly contacted candidates Abdirahman Abdishakur and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and told them the government wanted a ceasefire and agreement.
Additional efforts by traditional elders and leaders of Galmudug and HirShabelle, Ahmed Qoor Qoor and Ali Gudlawe are also underway to ensure that the fighting does not resume.
The conflict in Mogadishu is rooted in the opposition’s rejection to parliament extending the term of the government institutions by two years.
