Opposition leaders call partners to declare Farmaajo as a ‘spoiler’

MOGADISHU (SD) – Opposition presidential candidates have opposed the newly announced timeliness of the upcoming 2020/2021 elections.

On Wednesday evening, the interim federal elections committee presented new dates for much-awaited poll with the earliest being senate elections slate for later this month.

In a strongly worded statement, opposition groups led by former presidents have called on Federal Member States to boycott the election of Senators.

The statement also urged the international community to declare President Mohamed Farmaajo as a ‘spoiler’ noting that he was unilaterally taking decisions on elections.

According to the elections committee, the registration of candidates for the Upper House elections will begin on December 26, 2020.

The state Presidents are expected to issue a list of candidates on December 29, 2020.

The statement said elections for Upper House seats will be completed between December 31, 2020, and January 6, 2021.
