Hargeisa (SD) – Nearly 50 people were injured in a major fire at a Islamic institute in Hargeisa, with firefighters in Hargeisa rescuing lots more occupants.

The wounded included 40 women and eight men, as well as a firefighter who were rescuing them.

Hundreds of students were studying at the Islamic institute, all were rescued by the authorities.

The building consisted of two floors of 20 rooms and a mosque, health officials confirmed that 48 people, mostly students and teachers, had been injured in the fire.

It is not yet clear how the fire started and who was to blame, there are no official assessment on the damage the fire caused.
