Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, Chairman of the ruling party Kulmiye is said to be contemplating in handing over the chairmanship of the party to his deputy.
President Bihi has held the leadership of the party since President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo handed over the post to him in 2010.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi is reportedly handing over the chairmanship of the Kulmiye party to his Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, a long-time ally in the politics and in the liberation struggle.
The sources said that the President is officially preparing for his second presidential election in Somaliland which is expected to take place in the country by the end of next year 2022.
Reports of the transfer of the chairmanship of Kulmiye add that the President will do so at the Party’s general assembly which is expected to take place in early December.
The move by the president is said to be due to Kulmiye’s defeat in the country’s last Parliamentary and local elections.
