HARGEISA (SD) – Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, President of Somaliland, stated that Somaliland is a significant stakeholder in the Red Sea and deserves to be consulted on related matters.
He emphasized that Somaliland has the right to voice its opinion on issues concerning maritime security.
“To the countries bordering the Red Sea, regional states, and global powers with interests in the area, we remind them that Somaliland is among the primary stakeholders of the Red Sea. Therefore, Somaliland’s lack of recognition does not justify excluding us from discussions concerning its security,” said Irro.
The previous administration under Muse Bihi similarly reiterated on several occasions that Somaliland’s participation in Red Sea forums is essential and indispensable when it comes to security matters.
Somaliland administers 850 kilometers of coastline along the Gulf of Aden, close to vital trade routes. It has successfully maintained security in its waters, preventing piracy activities.
