Hargeisa (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi has today received at the Presidential Palace a delegation led by the Minister of Justice of Zambia, Mr. Gavin Lubinda who arrived in Hargeisa yesterday.
“The President of the Republic of Somaliland briefed the delegation on the general situation in the country and the current state of affairs as a result of public-government cooperation. He also briefed the Minister of History and Government of Somaliland. It is a country that gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1960, and was freely united with the Italian-occupied Somali Republic, to create a Somali Republic for all the Somali people in the Horn of Africa.” Said a released statement from the presidency.
Adding “The union did not work, and Somaliland suffered financial and material losses. The union, which was supposed to unite Somalis, failed.”
The two sides discussed the strengthening of relations between Somaliland and Zambia, cooperation between them and how Somaliland can get support from the government of Zambia.
Also during the meeting, the two presidents of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi and Zambia’s Edgar Chagwa Lungu spoke on the phone, discussing their relationship and interests.
The Somali government in the past has responded aggressively to similar diplomatic moves by Somaliland, but is yet to react to the Zambian delegation visit to Hargeisa.
