BOSSASO (SD) – Puntland Police Forces and the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR), particularly Operation ATALANTA, held a high-level meeting on maritime security aboard the Spanish warship ESPS Navarra (F-85), the flagship of Operation ATALANTA.
A Puntland Police delegation, led by Brigadier General Zakariya Abdirahman and accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Aadan, participated in the meeting, which took place in the Gulf of Aden, near the port of Bosaso. They were received by Rear Admiral Francisco Javier Vázquez Sanz and other senior EUNAVFOR officials.
The discussions focused on key maritime security challenges, with special attention given to counter-piracy strategies and other threats at sea.
Brigadier General Zakariya described the visit as “a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to enhance maritime security and international cooperation.”
He emphasized that “understanding the naval capabilities of our partners is vital to strengthening coastal security and ensuring the stability of our waters.”
Lieutenant Colonel Aadan, head of the Bari region’s CID unit, praised the longstanding cooperation between EUNAVFOR and Puntland Police, welcoming further collaboration.
Rear Admiral Francisco Javier Vázquez Sanz echoed these sentiments, stating: “Building strong partnerships with Puntland authorities is a top priority.”
He reaffirmed EUNAVFOR’s commitment to supporting Puntland’s efforts in ensuring long-term maritime security.
