BELEDWEYNE (SD) – Somali National Army (SNA) forces and local militia captured a vehicle reportedly carrying weapons and supplies for the Al-Shabaab group. The vehicle was intercepted in Baardheere, a location on the outskirts of Baladweyne.
The operation, which was planned in advance, led to the seizure of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was found to contain 13 AK-47 rifles and ammunition. The vehicle was reportedly heading to areas controlled by Al-Shabaab.
Colonel Maxamuud Xasan Ibrahim (Bakay), Commander of the 5th Battalion of the 27th Division of the Somali National Army, stated that the capture was possible due to intelligence gathered about the vehicle. He praised the forces for their successful operation and reiterated their readiness to counter Al-Shabaab’s threats.
Colonel Bakay urged the troops to strengthen their anti-Al-Shabaab operations, emphasizing their commitment to preventing the group’s activities.
The Somali forces and local militia have repeatedly intercepted vehicles transporting weapons, supplies, and other goods to Al-Shabab. However, there have been instances where such captured vehicles were secretly released.
