Mogadishu March 29, 2023 (SD) – The Somali National Army and local militias have reportedly taken control of several areas in the Galgaduud region, including Tix, Baraag Sheekh Caamir, Caliheele, and Cali Axmed in the district of Galcad.

According to government sources, Al-Shabaab militants were pushed out of these areas after a joint operation. Al-Shabaab has claimed that they withdrew from the areas voluntarily and that they continue to control the district of Galcad.

However, reports indicate that the group has lost ground in recent months due to increased pressure from Somali and international forces.

The capture of these areas is seen as a significant victory for the Somali National Army and its allies in their fight against Al-Shabaab. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has praised the efforts of the military and called for continued efforts to defeat the group and restore security to the region.
