Somali government blames Kenya for Beled Hawo attack

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali federal government says a militia organized by Kenya have attacked Gedo region, particularly Beled-hawo.

The Somali Minister of Information, Osman Abokor Dubbe, issued a statement last night, giving details of an attack in Gedo.

The fighting that took place last night in Beled Hawo is said to be heavy, there are no any independent details of the fighting.

“The Kenyan-backed rebel group crossed the border into Somalia tonight, attacking Gedo region, especially Beled Hawo district.” Said the minister adding “The Somali National Army (SNA) bravely repulsed the illegal foreign-organized invasion.”.

The minister said that the Somali government condemns the fighting in Beled Hawo, accusing Kenya organizing the attackers.

“We strongly condemn this aggression organized from inside Kenya, which contradicts the interest of peaceful coexistence of the people of the region and international norms based on respect and protection of national sovereignty. ” said minister Dubbe.

The Somali government has previously cut all political ties with Kenya, accusing Nairobi of meddling in Somalia’s internal affairs.

The Kenyan government did not yet respond to Somalia’s latest accusations.
