Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali Federal Government has cut diplomatic ties with Kenya, accusing it of continuing to violate Somalia’s sovereignty and statehood.
Somalia has said it will withdraw all its diplomats from Kenya, and has ordered Kenyans to leave the country within seven days, beginning December 15th.
A statement broadcasted on state media said, “The Federal Government of Somalia, in accordance with its national sovereignty as guaranteed by international law and order, and in fulfilling its constitutional duty to safeguard the unity, sovereignty and stability of the country, has decided to cut diplomatic ties with the Kenyan government. ”
Adding “The Federal Government of Somalia have ordered all its diplomats in Kenya to return home, and ordered Kenyan diplomats to leave the country within 7 days as of 15 December 2020,”
The statement added that the Federal Government of Somalia views the people of Kenya as people who love peace and coexistence among the people of the region. and has a deep relationship with the Somali people based on good neighborliness and cooperation. But today’s leadership of the Kenyan government is working to divide the two peoples with common interests.
The Somali government says it has taken this decision in response to the ongoing political and blatant interference by the Kenyan government in the country’s internal affairs.
The decision comes a day after the Kenyan government officially invited Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi to Nairobi, meeting with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi on Monday.
