Somali Parliament sets date for election agreement vote

Mogadishu (SD) – The speaker of Somalia’s parliament Mohamed Mursal informed the country’s lawmakers that the election agreement reached between President Farmajo and regional leaders will be voted on tomorrow.

In a message to lawmakers today, the chairman said: “Mr. Saturday, September 26, there will be a joint meeting of the two BFS chambers. Agenda: 1. Voting for a political agreement to guide the BFS 2020/21 parliamentary elections. It is 09:00 in the morning.”

Somalia’s political pundits suggest that lawmakers are likely to ratify the agreement, so that the country can go to the polls.

Heads of regional administrations in Somalia, all left Mogadishu after fears that parliament would refuse to ratify their agreement with Villa Somalia.
