MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre today met with representatives of the Security and Peace Council of the African Union.
Somalia’s Prime Minister told the Council that they are preparing to launch a ‘big battle’ against al-Shabaab.
PM Hamse indicated that Somalia is preparing for a major battle against terrorist groups, to open important roadways for aid.
“We are determined to wage a strong and widespread war against Al-Shabaab, ISIS and other terrorist organizations using military and non-military methods,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also said that his government will reform the country’s financial systems to prevent Al-Shabaab in collecting funds.
“To get the technology and the know how, and to prevent terrorist financing and to limit their access to funds, the government is committed to raising public awareness and mobilizing different sections of the public, including scholars, traditional elders, businessmen, women and youth so that each party can contribute to our efforts to eradicate terrorism.” the Prime Minister told the Security and Peace Council of the African Union.
Hamse asked the leaders of the African Union ATMIS mission to participate in the implementation of the government’s plans in a joint operations.
