MOGADISHU (SD) – The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency (HSJ) and Interpol signed a significant cooperation agreement today. The agreement focuses on key areas such as:
- Combating Organized Crime: Enhancing efforts to prevent and fight organized crimes.
- Improving Travel Security: Strengthening border security and ensuring safer travel processes.
- Collaboration and Partnerships: Fostering stronger ties and cooperation between HSJ and Interpol.
- Capacity Building: Enhancing the skills and capabilities of HSJ personnel in security-related matters.
- Tracing Missing Persons: Establishing efficient systems to locate and assist missing individuals.
During the signing ceremony, General Dhoore, head of Interpol Somalia, praised HSJ Director-General Mustafe Sheekh Cali Dhuxulow for his swift action in facilitating the agreement. Dhuxulow emphasized the importance of this partnership in strengthening efforts to combat extremism and travel-related crimes in Somalia, the region, and globally.
The Interpol delegation also visited the Fraud Detection Unit (FDU) of the Somali Immigration Agency, where advanced forensic tools are used to combat document fraud and other related crimes. HSJ officers provided demonstrations of how the equipment helps identify counterfeit documents and prevent organized criminal activities.
