Somalia: Feds send medical aid to Las Anod

Mogadishu May 22, 2023 (SD) – Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has today dispatched a medical flight carrying medical aid to the town of Las Anod, located in the Sool region, which is has been the center of heavy fighting between Somaliland and SSC forces.

The dispatched plane which landed in Garowe is carrying medical supplies for Las Anod to support the overwhelmed Las Anod hospital, which is treating a large number of injured individuals.

The medical relief effort covers various aspects of healthcare and specifically targets the affected civilian population in Las Anod, who have suffered greatly due to the recent escalation of violence.

The Director-General of SoDMA, Mr. Abdirashid Mohamud Hassan, the Head of the Health Department at SoDMA, Dr. Abdullahi Muse Ahmed, and other officials from SoDMA were on hand to see the relief send-off.

Laascaanood and its surrounding areas have been witnessing intense clashes between the forces of SSC (Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn) and the Somaliland military for the past few months, resulting in significant casualties, injuries, and displacement.
