MOGADISHU (SD) -The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a serious and final warning to individuals inciting civil conflicts through social media platforms.
The government has declared that it will take action against individuals who spread disturbing images, videos, audio recordings, and writings that fuel civil conflicts on social media.
“The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia is deeply saddened by the damages caused by civil conflicts in various regions of the country,” said a recent government statement.
The Ministry stated that it closely monitors social media platforms and other media outlets that are being misused by individuals contributing to the incitement of conflicts.
“The Ministry, fulfilling its duty, hereby issues a warning to social media users participating in the incitement of conflicts. The government will take lawful measures against anyone and any platform used to fuel civil conflicts,” the statement read.
The statement also mentioned, “Every citizen today has a responsibility to prevent the incitement of conflicts and to work towards peace among our fellow citizens whose blood is being shed.”
The Ministry also expressed gratitude to the media and social media users who convey positive and awareness-raising messages, highlighting that such examples are what is needed today.
Finally, the statement mentioned that national law enforcement agencies, particularly the police and the attorney general, are prepared to take appropriate actions at this time.
