Somalia mourns death of deputy Benadir police boss

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble has mourned the passing on of deputy Benadir police commissioner, Col: Ahmed Abdi (Waaweyne).

Roble, in his condolence message on Saturday, said Waweyne was an outstanding police commissioner who worked tirelessly for the peace and stability of his country.

“May God have mercy on Col. Ahmed Abdi (Waweyne), the Deputy Commander of the Benadir Regional Police,” the prime minister said. “My condolences to his family and the Somali Police Force.”

The officer succumbed to injuries he sustained in a suicide bomb blast at the front gate of the Waberi police station Mogadishu last Sunday.

Ahmed Abdullahi Bashane, commander of Waberi district, and Abdibasid Mohamud Agey, deputy commander of Weliyow Adde police department, were also among those killed, along with three other police officers.

Al-Shabab, which has been fighting the internationally recognized government, claimed responsibility for terror attack.
