Somalia: NISA says disillusioned youth defect from al Shabab

BAIDOA (SD) -Today, the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in the city of Baidoa, the capital of South West State, has presented several individuals suspected of affiliation with Al-Shabaab.

NISA has disclosed the defection of 10 individuals believed to be linked to Al-Shabaab insurgents, who were allegedly involved in both military and political activities, and these men surrendered to NISA at different times.

Some of the Al-Shabaab defectors have stated that they became disillusioned with the group, citing internal strife. They have also urged other Al-Shabaab members, particularly the youth, to defect from the organization.

The government has frequently announced the capture of individuals alleged to have joined Al-Shabaab, who are then taken to rehabilitation centers aimed at reintegrating former militants into society.
