Somalia requests Interpol issue a Red Notice against the President of Jubaland

MOGADISHU (SD) The Federal Government of Somalia has requested Interpol issue a Red Notice against the President of Jubaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).

The Somali government has accused Ahmed Madobe of treason, collaborating with foreign governments, and undermining the unity and cohesion of Somalia.

A Red Notice issued by Interpol is a global request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition, but it is not an international arrest warrant. The Federal Government of Somalia’s request represents a political move aimed at gaining international support to bring Ahmed Madobe to justice.

The Federal Government explicitly accuses Ahmed Madobe of collaborating with foreign entities whose goals include disrupting Somalia’s unity efforts and intentionally spreading classified information that endangers national security.

Federal authorities argue that Ahmed Madobe’s actions are undermining efforts to implement a one-person-one-vote electoral system, which Jubaland has strongly opposed.

As of Thursday, Ahmed Madobe and his administration have not yet responded to the government’s international request. However, sources close to the Jubaland administration have described the accusations as politically motivated, intended to weaken the autonomy of regional governments.
