Mogadishu (SD) – The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia has declared the recent election in Kismayo, which saw Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) re-elected as President of Jubaland for a third term, as illegal.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who chaired the meeting, announced urgent decisions regarding the Jubaland election.
The Cabinet also decided that the selected members of the Jubaland Council of Representatives and the re-election of the former Jubaland leader are both illegal.
The Cabinet decided that all steps taken in the illegal election process of the Jubaland State Government are not in compliance with Law 24, issued on March 31, 2024

The Cabinet directed the Attorney General of the Federal Government of Somalia to urgently work on bringing a case to the Supreme Court of the country against all actions that are not in accordance with the regulations of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the law of Organizations and Political Parties, committed by the former Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam.
