MOGADISHU (SD) – Speaking to the media, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC), stated that they have received all the equipment needed for the upcoming elections.
Abdikarim mentioned that the district-level elections will be held at the end of June, and the voter registration process will begin soon for citizens who meet the eligibility criteria to vote, as outlined.
“We have received all the election equipment. Next month, the voter registration process will begin, and we will kick off the district council elections,” said Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission.
Somalia has announced that it will hold a one-person, one-vote election to transition from the clan-based electoral system that has been in place since the establishment of the last six transitional governments, starting from the year 2000.
