Somalia’s Northern regions first to complete Parliamentary elections

MOGADISHU (SD) -The Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, today attended the closing of the elections both houses of parliament representing the Northern Regions.

The PM praised the Somaliland Electoral Commission and the Federal Electoral Commission for their outstanding work and collaboration, and for concluding the elections before the agreed upon deadline on February 25th, 2022.

The elections are still in full swing in most of the other regions in Somalia, and 153 MPs out of 275 MPs have been elected thus far.

Roble urged the state governments to stick to the deadline and finalize the parliamentary elections promptly.

The final three members of the parliament were elected today, and this marked the successful closure of the seats for the Northern Region Parliament.

There are four days remaining from the date set by the National Consultative Assembly to conclude the parliamentary elections. It is reported that some administrations have not yet launched their elections with many candidates remaining to be elected for the parliament.
