MOGADISHU (SD) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who led Friday prayers at the Martyrs’ Mosque in the Presidential Palace, addressed the nation’s situation and the ongoing fight against terrorism in the Hirshabelle region.
The President highlighted the significant victories achieved by the Somali National Army in liberating territories from militants. He emphasized that the Somali people and their government will not be deterred by the propaganda and lies spread by the terrorists.
President Hassan Sheikh addressed recent reports suggesting that Al-Shabaab is planning attacks in Mogadishu, stating that these are false narratives created by the group using both Somali and foreign sources to spread fear.
“Mogadishu, despite the explosions, has not stopped its daily activities. Government officials continue their work, and flights to the city have not ceased. The recent suspension of flights by Qatar Airways is an isolated incident,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
“Our country is not in danger. No liberated town has been retaken by Al-Shabaab. We are conducting airstrikes and ground operations. We will not accept Somali politicians or foreign governments spreading fear among our people.”
The President’s remarks were a response to a recent security alert issued by the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, which warned of potential Al-Shabaab attacks, including at Aden Adde International Airport.
