Somaliland Cancels Eid Prayers Due to COVID-19

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland national COVID-19 committee, in consultation with the Ministry of Health Development and infectious disease experts, issued further ordinance in curbing the spread of the virus during Eid celebrations.

The committees issue on a ban on Eid prayers, closure of kids play grounds and restricted local and inter regional travel during the Eid holydays in the country.

Business are strongly urged not to open their establishments, be they Hotels, kids playgrounds during the holidays. Religious community are also order to keep the Mosques closed.

Somaliland struggled in enforcing the shelter in place orders during the pandemic, lifting a welcomed Kat ban few days ago, amid calls for extending its ban due to the drug being a source of community spread.

The country struggled in making testing available to its population but recorded 721 cases of COVID-19 in the country, with 10 people recovering and 11 deaths.
