HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland lawmakers approve child protection bill No. 102/2021, after a lengthy and at times testy debate.
Today’s session of the Somaliland House of Representatives, chaired by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed, approved the much needed Child Protection Act in Somaliland.
The session was attended by 56 members, 46 members voted for the bill, It was rejected by 9 members, no one abstained and the chairman did not vote.
The Child Protection Act contains 39 articles, Among other things, the government has the overall responsibility for protecting the rights of children in Somaliland.
On the other hand, some lawmakers told the media the law has an anti-Islam provisions, which they fought to amend but failed.

Ahmed informed the members of the House of Representatives that they will consider the insurance bill before the House of Representatives of Somaliland next week, urging the members of the House to read the law.
