HARGEISA (SD) -The Somaliland National Human Rights Commission confirmed national party leaders and journalist recently arrested at a prodemocracy rally were tortured inside a Hargeisa jail.
The commission said they spoke with leaders from both official national parties and journalists arrested during a peaceful rally in Hargeisa on June 9th.

The Somaliland National Human Rights Commission has confirmed the torture of members arrested by the government of President Muse Bihi.
Somaliland police have previously denied that soldiers tortured and fired live ammunition at protesters, making the new revelations a clear indication of just how far the current regime is willing to go the subvert democracy.
Somaliland National Human Rights Commission expressed concerns over violations of citizens’ constitutional rights.
Official opposition parties in Somaliland have rejected the Somaliland president’s desire to extend his term in office, and his attempts to undermine the country’s democratic process.
