Hargeisa (SD) -Leaders of the Somaliland opposition UCID and Wadani Parties have accused the Somaliland president of bribing some while prosecuting other opposition lawmakers.
UCID and Wadani party chairmen Faisal Ali Warabe and Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), who spoke to the media today, accused the Somaliland president Muse Bihi of harassing and bribing opposition lawmakers with taxpayer’s funds.
“It is unfortunate that the people’s taxes are being misappropriated to sway UCID lawmakers, who are not able to say I have reached an agreement with my party.” said Faisal Ali Warabe.
Wadani opposition party chairman Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) also accused the president of luring opposition lawmakers and threatening Kulmiye lawmakers who want to support the opposition coalition.
“You have heard MPs from opposition parties say we support the ruling party. Opposition groups have never been heard opposing them. You know how many Kulmiye have come out in support of the opposition. From the day they elected until now, there have been rumors that they will be prosecuted,” said Irro.
Opposition parties such as Waddani and UCID and the ruling party Kulmiye are vying for the new Somaliland House of Representatives, is at an all-time high as both sides work to attract each other’s MPs.
