Hargeisa December 01, 2022 (SD) – The top leaders of Somaliland opposition parties UCID and Waddani have engaged in talks on Thursday in Hargeisa as the election dispute remains a contention between them and the government.
The opposition officials have not yet clarified the agenda of their meeting to the public, but, it is widely believed to revolve around ways to pressure the presidency into holding elections as the country’s political situation remains tense as their license is to expire on December 26, 2022.
A few weeks ago, the two opposition parties announced their decision to call President Bihi presidency “illegitimate”, as his term came to an end on November 13, 2022, a move strongly criticized by the government.
However, this latest meeting coincides with a time the opposition parties held meetings with some members of the international partners this week in Hargeisa over the upcoming elections.
