Somaliland: Opposition parties announce a political alliance against the Ruling party

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland’s opposition parties Waddani and UCID have announced a new coalition in Hargeisa, following the announcement of the final results of the Somaliland’s Local and Parliament elections.

The two parties have appointed new coalition started working to ensure that the two parties retain leadership in the House of Representatives and local councils.

The leadership of the new coalition is made up of 10 members, five of whom are each nominated by the leadership of the Waddani and UCID parties.

The leadership of the two parties agreed that the top leadership of the House of Representatives and the district of Somaliland should be taken over by the two opposition parties.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Abdi Dheere, the first deputy chairman of the Kulmiye party, said opposition parties have the right to form alliances.

“The two parties have the right to announce a coalition. They are opposition parties. We are in a democracy,” he said.

“As for the Kulmiye party and its government, the most important thing is how well the election went,” he added.
