Hargeisa (SD) – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, attended the first all female inaugural graduation ceremony at Barwaqo University located in Baliga-cas region, north of the Somaliland capital Hargeisa.
Also attending were cabinet ministers, the police chief, officials and teachers of Barwaqo University and the parents of the graduates.
The newly appointed principal of the school, Mrs. Joy Isa, Nimo Ahmed Ismail, the first foreign student to be sent to the United States to study abroad, is one of the leaders of Barwaqo University, Rob Kaufman, speaking on behalf of the director of the abaarso network in the United States, and Hayad Carte, the founder of the explorer program, all spoke about the importance of the university and the abaarso school to the Somaliland community.
“Today is one of the happiest days of my life, This is the first time in history that a female teachers have been trained to teach at a private university, It is a victory for all Somalis and especially for Somaliland, and it is a bright future for our country today that in our country today women have their own university ” said President Bihi.
The president defended Abaarso school and Barwaqo University in what he called baseless attacks, and said he had visited Abaarso in person and saw the necessary work that they do.
Finally President Bihi awarded certificates to 16 Barwaqo University graduates encouraged parents to take advantage of the educational opportunities in their country and not listen to the propaganda.
