Somaliland president backs popular Opposition Councilor to become Hargeisa mayor

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has backed Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, who was elected from the Waddani party as mayor of Hargeisa, after opposition parties disagreed over his mayoralty.

Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, the most popular candidate for the Hargeisa City Council and a candidate for mayor, was received by the president of Somaliland along with other elected Councilors.

Mooge called on the president of Somaliland this afternoon after opposition parties disagreed on his mayoralty.

Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, responding to MP Mooge’s call, said he stood by him.

“The answer to your call is that we stand by you, and we are ready to work with you on all of your rights with your election,” said President Bihi.

The president said a legal path will be followed to ensure councilor Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge ambitions.

Mooge thanked the President of Somaliland for his prompt response to his call.

“We thank you for welcoming us. The people of Hargeisa who are expecting us to build a new Hargeisa are honored that God has given them a president who respects and listens,” Mooge said.

Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, who announced his candidacy for mayor of Hargeisa before the election, received 26,299 votes, the highest number ever cast for a local council candidate.
