Somaliland: President Receives South African Delegation

Hargeisa (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, today received at his office a large delegation from South Africa, led by Mr. Mhlekwa Nxumalo a senior member of the ruling ANC.

The President briefed the delegation on the history of Somaliland and its efforts to seek recognition, as it withdrew from the union with Somalia and declared independence in 1991.

The President was accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Yasin Mohamud Hiir (Faraton), Interior, Mr. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, Finance Development Dr Sa’ad Ali Shire and Second Vice Chairman of the ruling party Kulmiye party, Ahmed Abdi Hussein.

Mr. Mhlekwa was also accompanied on the trip by Mr. Abner Mosaase. Malose Ramashala and Mr. Allen Magumbi, according to a statement from the Somaliland presidency.

The President of Somaliland has been meeting with African officials in recent days, and earlier this week received a delegation led by Malawi’s Foreign Minister Eisenhower Mkaka in Hargeisa.
