Somaliland sends the UN engagement expectations demand

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland government has for the first time shared with the United Nations a document outlining Somaliland’s approach to working with the UN, at a time when a preliminary understanding has been reached on the dispute between the two sides.

Somaliland suspended its co-operation with the United Nations early last year, banning all UN agencies from operating in its territories, suspending development and humanitarian projects in Somaliland.

Muse Bihi’s government reportedly submitted a 7-page memo to the United Nations, which outlined Somaliland’s approach to working with the United Nations, while respecting its sovereignty.

The statement went on to say that the United Nations should respect Somaliland’s sovereignty and treat it as independent country from Somalia, the report was prepared by the Somaliland Ministry of Planning, according to sources with knowledge.
