Galcad April 23, 2023 (SD) – The news from the Galgaduud region in central Somalia indicates that today, the national army and local forces launched a successful operation against the Al-Shabaab militants in the Galcad district of Galgaduud.

The planned operation was carried out in the Ceel-Qansax area, on the city’s outskirts. The forces managed to capture a position where Al-Shabaab militants were stationed.

The commanders of the operation confirmed that they destroyed a base where the Al-Shabaab militants were stationed, and also seized weapons and ammunition. They also reported that they killed up to 5 militants and arrested several others.

In addition, the army confiscated a large BG-type truck loaded with military equipment, fuel, and other supplies.

The situation in the town of Galcad, which was previously under the control of Al-Shabaab, is still unstable, with intermittent gunfire and sporadic clashes reported in the area. The residents of the town are afraid and concerned about the current situation.

There has been no statement from Al-Shabaab about the operation.

Galcad has seen frequent clashes between the government forces and Al-Shabaab, with the city changing hands several times.
