The Future Council conditions participation in the meeting, extended by President Hassan Sheikh.

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Somali Future Council has officially announced their position regarding the country’s political situation, tying any participation in discussions to strict conditions related to the country’s electoral process.

The Somali Future Council has stated that they welcome the President’s invitation to the planned dialogue on May 10, 2026, but have attached clear conditions to ensure political integrity.

In a written statement they issued, the Council stated that dialogue with the Federal Government would only be possible if genuine sincerity is shown, which they tied to two key points.

1- To halt all electoral activities, actions that undermine gatherings, and any political agenda related to elections, if goodwill exists. Jowhar Regional News

2- To obtain independent and trusted mediation, as previous long rounds of dialogue over the past two years have failed.

This means that the parties understand each other, yet there is a need for another third party that is independent. International representatives and agreed-upon traditional elders will be the option currently under discussion.

The Future Council announced that after May 15, they will take steps to save the country’s governance, which will not tolerate a governance vacuum or unconstitutional governance.
