Hargeisa (SD) – Zaad Services, a widely used money transfer service in Somaliland, has been shut down for the past few hours, due to a glitch in Telesom.
Zaad’s lack of service today has disrupted business for hours, with thousands of customers struggling to make vital transactions.
There is also a reported interruptions with the Cellphone service, which are completely disconnected, making it difficult for Telesom SIM card users to communicate with the company or others.
Telesom has recently apologized for the hours-long glitch that is still affecting their most important Zaad and Cell services.
The Telecom giant did not say exactly what the problem is, promising to fix it as soon as possible so that remittance and Mobile services, which are important to the public, can be reactivated.
Telecom and its Zaad service, has been widely criticized in Somaliland, and has been plagued by a number of scandals in the past, with the company repeatedly accused of failing to protect public funds.
The Somaliland government has not yet commented on the incident, and it is unknown when Telesom services will be up and running again.
