The President of Somaliland held a broad meeting with the leaders of civil society organizations

HARGEISA (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi, accompanied by the Vice President of Somaliland, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, held a broad meeting with the leaders of civil society organizations.

The President first thanked the civil society leaders for their meeting, emphasizing the honorable role civil society organizations play in the nation’s development, promoting Somaliland’s positive image, and seeking international recognition.

The President assured the civil society leaders that his administration would closely collaborate with them on matters of importance and priority to the Somaliland administration.

Furthermore, the President informed the civil society organizations that his government always respects the fundamental rights granted to Somaliland citizens by the national constitution and that those who criticize his administration would not face imprisonment, suppression, or intimidation.

The President urged the civil society leaders to double their efforts in raising public awareness and understanding, combating tribalism and discrimination.

In response, the civil society leaders expressed their gratitude for the President’s prompt response to their request for a meeting with him and the Vice President.

The civil society leaders assured the President that they are ready to cooperate with the new administration on the substantial tasks ahead of the nation, whether in terms of security, economy, or public awareness and social issues.

Additionally, the civil society organizations thanked the President for the political representation given to the Gaboye community, highlighting that President Abdirahman Cirro’s administration is the first in 34 years to appoint a full minister from the Gaboye community, and they suggested implementing and enacting the Anti-Discrimination Law.

Moreover, the civil society organizations praised the President for assigning important roles to women in his administration, acknowledging that this was due to the President’s understanding and not because of any requests from women. They expressed their expectations for further support. The meeting concluded successfully and with mutual understanding.
