Turkey and Ethiopia discuss Maritimes dispute

ADDIS ABABA (SD)-Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia yesterday and met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, according to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Turkey stated that this visit is part of its mediation efforts between Somalia and Ethiopia to resolve the dispute arising from Ethiopia’s maritime agreement with Somaliland.

Fidan also met with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Taye Atske Selassie. The visit is expected to last several days.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that discussions included the Somalia-Ethiopia conflict and the broader situation in the Horn of Africa.

A tweet from Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s account mentioned that Fidan and Abiy discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations. As Somalia seeks support from Turkey to defend itself in case Ethiopia uses force.
